NEWSLETTER MARCH 2007 - Feb 27, 2007
Author: Peter Fordham
COUNTY COMPETITIONS
Congratulations to our successful Club Members in the recent County Tournaments. George Kizis is the new County under 13 Champion after having a very good tournament.
Tom Wright followed with further success with the runners up spot in the under 15's.
Aaron Self also gained the runners up spot in the under 18's.
Aaron then followed this with a winners medal in the under 18's Doubles when he teamed up with his clubmate Lok Wong.
Following this Tournament the County Rankings were revised..
George Kizis is the under 13's number one. Tom Wright in the under 15's is number two followed by Bill Kilner at number five and Steven Ensinger number eight. In the under 18's Aaron Self is at four, Lok Wong five and Will Vale at number seven. Well done to these Juniors and we have others who hopefully will make the list next year..
In the veterans Peter Fordham won the over 60's and was runner up in both the veteran restricted and the handicap events.
LEAGUE TEAMS
Last years Champions The Vikings are leading the First Division again with The Crusaders at number five.
In the second division The Romans are second and the Normans fourth.
The Conquerors are leading the way in the Third Division with the Commandoes, in their first year, a very creditable third. Full League results can been seen on www.bsett.co.uk
Club Members had more success in the League Tournament. David Unwin won the Veterans whilst Dominic Melero was Runner Up in the Mens Singles. Aaron Self won the Junior event from Clubmate Lok Wong. Will Vale had a good tournament winning both the Handicap and Division 3 titles.
Paul Seabrook was Runner Up in the 2nd Division and James Swanson in the 3rd Division.Aaron Self and Dominic Melero were Runners Up in the Doubles.
SUFFOLK & CAMBS JUNIOR LEAGUE
This League is again being hosted by the Club at King Edward School and we have entered two teams. The teams selected are all beginners and this competition gives them a good insight into competetive Table Tennis. The Bears are currently seventh in the First Division and the Bobcats 5th in the Second Division. Full Results can be seen at www.scjttl.co.uk
VOLUNTEERS
We are all volunteers and volunteers are the life blood of any club. New people are always welcome. There is always something to do such as cleaning and maintaining the tables, collecting fees etc. If you can give just a few hours a year it will all help.
We are hoping to get some funding which will mean we can offer Sport England courses to our volunteers.
JUNIOR COACHING
This year we have had good numbers with a lot of new junior members which is promising for the future. Thanks to those parents who help our overworked coaches to get out and put away the tables.
As these new players progress there is the opportunity to take part in various competitions at all different levels and the Coaches will give information on this.
As the juniors progress they will want their own bat but beware of buying a bat from a local shop.It is best to buy from a specialist supplier and again the Coaches can advise.
CLUB SHIRTS
These are available in the Club colours of Red with navycollar
and we like the players who are representing the Club to wear these shirts. They are available in various sizes and cost £15. Ask any Club Official about these.
CLUBMARK
The Club has been successful in obtaining the Sport England Clubmark status which is only given to Sports Clubs that achieve a high standard of organisation and provide a safe environment in which young people can develop their sporting skills.
CLUB LUNCH
Following the success of last years lunch we will be holding another one this year. details will be circulated shortly.
CLUB WEBSITE
Remember to look at the site www.bsettc.co.uk for the latest information.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Maurice Fearn who has been the Club Secretary since the Club first started, nearly 9 years ago has decided it is time to hand over this role to someone else. Maurice is involved in so many other Table Tennis matters. I would like to thank him for the great work he has done in helping to get the Club up and going in the early years and for the continuing support he has given me.
Now we have to fill this role when Maurice resigns which will be at the AGM in May.
It is important that this position is filled as the Club is not allowed to operate without a Secretary, so please don't sit back and think someone else will do it otherwise you might find you have nowhere to play Table Tennis next year.
Now that Maurice has finely tuned the job it does not take up too much time. Committee meetings are held about 5 times a year and it is a matter of taking minutes, printing them up and distributing them. There are other small jobs that take up a very short time particularly in these times of e-mail etc. Maurice will gladly help with any training and it would be nice if a prospective candidate came forward now so they could work in tandem with Maurice until May.
I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING A CLUB SECRETARY
